“We’re a family”, Hammers captain statement after Man Utd loss

Kurt Zouma announced as new West Ham captain to replace Declan Rice after impressive start to the season | talkSPORT

After yesterday’s disheartening 3-0 loss on the road at Old Trafford, club captain Kurt Zouma feels that West Ham needs to be more efficient in their next games.

In contrast to last Thursday’s match against Bournemouth, where the Hammers struggled to generate many chances regardless of the outcome, yesterday’s trip to Old Trafford saw 22 shots on goal for West Ham.

Rasmus Hojlund, a striker, gave Ten Haag’s team the lead 23 minutes in when he struck a powerful shot from the outside of the area that went low and into the bottom corner for his fourth goal in his previous four Premier League games.

Both Jarrod Bowen and Emerson had great chances to tie the score and put West Ham back in the game; however, Bowen was stopped brilliantly by Diogo Dalot, and Emerson’s shot went just wide of Onana’s goal. These came on top of a number of set piece opportunities missed by the Hammers.

Alejandro Garnacho, a 19-year-old, sealed all three points for The Red Devils with a brace four minutes into the second half and one with five minutes remaining.

After the match, Kurt Zouma said on the team’s official website, “They were more clinical. We had a few chances to score, but we couldn’t.” It occurs in football, particularly at this location, which is difficult to visit. “I would say that we played better than in the previous couple of games, but we couldn’t manage to finish our chances,” the speaker continued. We need to get better in both areas.

The Hammers captain lauded the team’s attitude and insisted that, despite the outcome, everyone is now focused on the upcoming game: “We are a family.” We support one another, we’re a close family, and everyone is happy. Even though we lost today, you could still feel the spirit. Everyone is eagerly anticipating the next match.

Sunday afternoon marks West Ham’s return to action as they host Arsenal, who are now ranked second, at the London Stadium.
