What an Ex-PL coach actually thinks of the Crystal Palace position in light of Roy Hodgson’s update

Roy Hodgson returns to Crystal Palace as manager until end of season

Steve Cooper appears to be a good candidate to succeed Roy Hodgson at Crystal Palace, but there are rumours that the Welshman would struggle in a managerial role at Selhurst Park.

The 76-year-old manager of Crystal Palace, Roy Hodgson, may soon be ending his second stint in South London since he is still having trouble getting results in the Premier League this year.

Due to the Eagles’ dire need for a form and motivation boost—they have only won four of their previous 17 games in the league—co-owner Steve Parish is reportedly considering firing Hodgson.

According to a source in The Guardian, Parish has “strongly contemplated” a managerial change, as tensions have reached an all-time high following the devastating 4-1 loss to Brighton the previous game.

Steve Parish is having trouble finding Crystal Palace a new manager.

The report further states that although it has been rumoured that the owner has been looking at possible successors for the previous few weeks, the businessman has not committed to firing Hodgson.

The Guardian has revealed that the difficulty in identifying a suitable successor who is willing to take over at this point in the 2023–2024 calendar is the shocking reason why a replacement hasn’t been clearly identified at this time.

The Eagles are only five points above the relegation zone, and fans are not happy with the board. As a result, the atmosphere for a new manager could resemble a cauldron.

A shift is required to ease these tensions, and one of the contenders for the difficult position is rumoured to be former Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper.

Steve Cooper’s alleged thoughts on the Palace job

Cooper’s tenure at Forest came to an end in December when the team lost five of his last six games under his leadership, raising the prospect of relegation.

The 44-year-old is reportedly “reluctant” to take over at Selhurst after experiencing the lowest points of his Premier League struggles. The storyline of concern is that he won’t have enough time to turn the team around this season.

Before 2024 officially began, the Welshman was rumoured to be in the sights of Palace, indicating that the team thought he was a suitable and formidable prospect to lead the team in the future. This was shortly after he was fired by Forest.

The futures of Hodgon and his possible successors are also in jeopardy; Cooper, in particular, may be reluctant to take up the Selhurst project.
