The Edmonton Elks have solidified their defensive lineup by signing linebacker Tony Jones to a one-year contract extension, ensuring his presence through the 2024 season. Hailing from Casselberry, Florida, the 28-year-old Jones stands at six feet two inches and weighs 235 pounds.

Jones made a significant impact during the 2023 season, contributing 41 tackles, 11 tackles on special teams, one sack, and one forced fumble across 18 games for the Elks. Edmonton acquired Jones as a free agent on September 12, 2022, and in his debut season with the team, he showcased his defensive prowess.

Before joining the Elks, Jones was part of the Toronto Argonauts’ practice squad in 2022. His football journey also includes a stint with the Iowa Barnstormers in the Indoor Football League (IFL) in 2021, where he earned recognition as the IFL Rookie of the Year. In that season, Jones accumulated 71 tackles, 3.5 sacks, one forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries in ten games.

Jones’ collegiate career traces back to Butler Community College (2015-16), where he displayed his versatility with 176 tackles, 33 tackles for loss, 12.5 sacks, seven forced fumbles, six fumble recoveries, six pass breakups, and one interception in 22 games for the Grizzlies. He later transferred to Texas Tech (2017-18), amassing 77 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, eight sacks, one interception, three pass breakups, and three fumble recoveries in 24 games for the Red Raiders.

The Elks’ decision to extend Jones’ contract reflects their confidence in his defensive capabilities, adding a seasoned player to their roster for the upcoming season.
