Eddie Howe challenges  “resources” at Newcastle United following a devastating defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

Eddie Howe names the one Newcastle player he felt played 'really well' vs Everton last night

Only a few days after crumbling against Everton, Newcastle United suffered yet another crushing loss at the hands of Spurs.

Eddie Howe said Newcastle United lacked “the resources” to do more in the team’s 4-1 loss against Spurs.

Newcastle suffered their second crushing loss in as many days as their defence failed to perform in either half, even allowing confidence-shattering Richarlison to treble Tottenham’s Premier League goal total. However, Howe stated he could not criticise the work his players did in the city.

Speaking immediately following Spurs’ thrashing, Howe stated: “I thought Tottenham played very well.” We played well at times during the game, particularly in the first part of the second half when we were leading until they scored.”

Days before that match against AC Milan, Howe had the opportunity to make changes but chose to stick with the same lineup, which meant that worn-out players like Anthony Gordon and Kieran Trippier were thrust back into the limelight.

He went on, “You could see that we weren’t physically at our best today. The boys were giving their all, but they didn’t have the means to provide more.

If I accept that and claim that it’s all due to exhaustion, we have another game on Wednesday. This season, this is what we want.

“The Champions League is a really unique competition, but it also means more games. We had hoped to have the team to handle it, but given the injuries we’ve had, I believe we’ve fared worse than any previous team in my memory.

“It is challenging; this same set of guys has played five games. Nevertheless, with Callum and Sean returning, there is some hope left. Great players for us, and both of them performed admirably when they entered the game.”

In conclusion, Howe stated that his team needed to accept the loss with grit and say, “We have to take the pain and come out fighting again.”
