Don’t Doubt The Ducks- Five-Star Prospect

Oregon Football: An Early Look At The Ducks' 2023 Football, 55% OFF
The Oregon Ducks are among the top teams in contention for five-star 2025 defensive back DJ Pickett, per the man himself.

A wealth of offensive skill leads the Oregon Ducks football team’s 2025 recruiting class, which is already remarkable. However, is head coach Dan Lanning and staff close to signing one of the top defensive prospects in high school?

Five-star defensive back DJ Pickett himself claims that the Ducks are more competitive than most to get his services.

In spite of LSU and Miami presently being the clear favourites, Pickett, a graduate of Zephyrhills High School in Tampa, Florida, claimed in a recent interview with On3 that Oregon is being disregarded by supporters during his recruitment process.

“A lot of people don’t really talk about Oregon like that, but they’re up with those two (LSU and Miami),” Pickett stated to On3.

According to 247Sports, Pickett will make his announcement on Saturday, October 5. He will begin his official visit with Oregon on June 21. This will follow trips to LSU, Clemson, Georgia, and Miami, providing the Ducks with one final opportunity to challenge him and additional time to strengthen their case.

Linkon Cure, a five-star tight end, is another target for Oregon, but if Pickett were to arrive, Eugene would gain one of the top defensive prospects in the 2025 class.

Pickett is ranked seventh overall in the 2025 class by 247Sports. He recorded 63 total tackles, one sack, three tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, six interceptions, and one pick-six in his combined rookie and sophomore seasons.

Akili Smith Jr., an Oregon Ducks quarterback commit for 2025, is really enthusiastic about Oregon. In July 2023, the 6-foot-5, 215-pound signal-caller, who is the son of former Oregon Duck Akili Smith and a former NFL first-round draft pick, committed to Oregon.

Smith Jr. is vocal about recruiting the top talent to join him at Oregon, including the nation’s No. 1 wide receiver Dakorien Moore.
