The Hamilton Tiger-Cats made significant roster moves by extending the contracts of kicker Marc Liegghio and punter Kaare Vedvik for two more years, securing their services through the 2025 season, as announced on Monday.

Marc Liegghio, hailing from Woodbridge, Ontario, stands at five feet seven inches and weighs 198 pounds. The 26-year-old showcased his prowess during the 2023 season, where he boasted impressive statistics, converting 41 out of 47 field goals (87.2%), with a longest kick of 50 yards, and successfully completing 27 of 32 extra points in 17 games for the Ticats.

Liegghio’s journey in the CFL began when he was drafted by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the fifth round (39th pick) of the 2021 CFL Draft. He spent two seasons with the Blue Bombers, accumulating noteworthy achievements, including making 37 out of 47 field goals (78.7%) with a longest kick of 55 yards. During his collegiate years at the University of Western, Liegghio demonstrated his kicking prowess, contributing significantly to the team’s success and earning a spot on the 2017 Western’s Vanier Cup championship team.

 

Kaare Vedvik, a towering figure at six feet four inches and 215 pounds, hails from Stavanger, Norway. The 29-year-old displayed his punting skills during the 2023 season with the Ticats, punting the ball 50 times for a total of 2,208 yards, averaging 44.2 yards per punt, with a longest punt of 62 yards across ten games.

Vedvik’s football journey includes stints with various NFL teams such as the Baltimore Ravens, Minnesota Vikings, New York Jets, and others before joining the CFL. Drafted by the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the second round (14th pick) of the 2021 CFL Global Draft, Vedvik showcased his punting abilities during his tenure, notably achieving a career-long punt of 78 yards.

Collegiately, Vedvik excelled at Marshall University, where he garnered recognition for his punting skills, including a remarkable 92-yard punt against Old Dominion in 2017, earning him a spot on the First Team All-C-USA that year.
