The Titans’ dismal 2024 start continued on Saturday night when they gave up a 10-0 lead.

Gold Coast Titans coach Des Hasler has criticized his team’s offensive performance following their third consecutive loss at the start of the 2024 NRL season.

The beginning of the year has been challenging for Gold Coast, with Hasler’s squad allowing over 30 points in each of their first three games.

A particular worry for the Titans is that these defeats came against the St George Illawarra Dragons, Canterbury Bulldogs, and now The Dolphins. Despite initially leading against The Dolphins on Saturday, with a 10-point advantage, they couldn’t maintain their momentum.

The Titans even had the upper hand when Dolphins’ player Max Plath was sent off during the first half, but they couldn’t seize the opportunity, eventually succumbing to a 30-14 defeat.

Hasler expressed his dissatisfaction with his team’s current performance level, emphasizing their lack of consistency and execution in attack. During the post-match press conference, he highlighted missed opportunities and costly errors, particularly during key moments when they had a numerical advantage due to a sin bin incident. Despite starting promisingly and showing improvement in certain areas, turnovers and defensive lapses continue to plague their game.

The Titans’ struggles were evident in their statistics, with 11 errors and 39 missed tackles compared to their opponents’ significantly lower numbers. Captain Kieran Foran echoed Hasler’s sentiments, attributing their inconsistent attack to early mistakes that put them on the back foot defensively. The team’s inability to control possession and capitalize on scoring opportunities has been a recurring issue, resulting in fatigue and conceding points.

Looking ahead, the Titans face tough challenges against formidable opponents in the coming weeks. With matches against the North Queensland Cowboys and Canberra Raiders away from home followed by encounters with the Manly Sea Eagles and New Zealand Warriors, they are under pressure to address their shortcomings and improve their performance to climb up from the bottom of the ladder.
