Craig Lingard refutes rumors about the departure of Castleford Tigers forward before the Super League 2024.

Castleford Tigers to link up with Craig Lingard's former club Batley Bulldogs in 2024

Vete has been associated with a potential departure from West Yorkshire since the conclusion of 2023, following a less-than-impressive debut season with the Castleford Tigers. Despite making only six appearances for the team last season, recent rumors have been suggesting that the 30-year-old may leave just one year into his originally signed two-year contract.

“He is currently a player for Castleford, and we are optimistic that he will successfully complete training this week and contribute to the game against London this weekend,” Lingard informed League Express.

“Despite the ongoing rumors circulating, I receive messages claiming he is leaving. However, to the best of my knowledge, there are no such plans, and unless Albert or the club expresses a desire for a release, of which I am currently unaware, he remains a Castleford player until any further updates.

“His performance in terms of attitude and rehabilitation has been commendable throughout the pre-season. The only challenge we face, which has been persistent in recent seasons, is getting him more playing time on the field.”

Lingard disclosed that Vete is dealing with a persistent calf injury that originated during his time with KR.

“Whenever his calf acts up, he has to return to off-feet conditioning, which places restrictions on his activities. This has been a challenge for him since his days at Hull KR. I’m uncertain if he had any prior issues with it in Australia, but it has certainly been a recurring problem since he arrived in the UK.”
