Tampa Bay Lightning Prospect’s Contract Terminated

The Tampa Bay Lightning have made a decisive move regarding the future of their prospect, Ilya Usau. They have initiated the process of terminating his contract by placing him on unconditional waivers.

Speculation is rife about Usau’s next destination, with James Mirtle from The Athletic suggesting a return to the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) for the 22-year-old player.

Usau’s tenure with the Lightning’s affiliate team, the Syracuse Crunch, this season amounted to 42 games, during which he managed to notch seven goals and accumulate 14 points. This performance comes after his debut season with the Crunch in 2022-23, where he registered four goals and 16 points across 57 games.

The Lightning initially signed Usau to an entry-level contract toward the conclusion of the 2021-22 season. This decision followed a commendable showing with Minsk Dynamo in the KHL, where he tallied nine goals and 26 points across 40 games.

The termination of Usau’s contract prompts a keen interest in where his career trajectory will lead next. As of now, it is confirmed that his association with the Lightning organization has reached its conclusion.
