The B.C. Lions have released offensive linemen Jacky Chen and Amari Cummings, as noted on the CFL Transactions page.
Jacky Chen, standing at six foot six and weighing 310 pounds, is a 23-year-old from Port Jefferson, New York. He initially joined the Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted free agent on May 12, 2023. The Houston Texans then picked him up off waivers on August 15, 2023, but released him ten days later.
Chen signed with the B.C. Lions on September 12, 2023, and spent a month on their practice squad. He re-signed with the Lions on November 22, 2023, and played in one preseason game against the Calgary Stampeders in 2024.
In college, Chen played five seasons at Pace University (2018-2022), participating in 31 games. In 2019, he contributed to an offense that amassed over 3,700 total yards, 22 passing touchdowns, and 20 rushing touchdowns. Chen was selected to play in the East-West Shrine Bowl and was named to the First Team All-NE10 in 2022.
Amari Catchings, a 25-year-old from Jackson, Mississippi, stands six foot four and weighs 320 pounds. In 2023, he played 13 games for the Bay Area Panthers in the IFL, helping them secure the United Bowl championship against the Sioux Falls Storm.
During his time with the Panthers, the team ranked third in offensive scoring, third in rushing yards per game (95.7), and 12th in average passing yards per game (134.5). Catchings then signed with the B.C. Lions on November 27, 2023, and participated in one preseason game against the Calgary Stampeders, where he made one tackle.
In college, Catchings played four seasons at Jackson State (2018-2021), appearing in 17 games. In 2019, Jackson State’s offense averaged 26.08 points per game, with 2,699 rushing yards (188.3 per game), 2,400 passing yards (200.25 per game), and a total of 4,663 yards of offense (388.6 per game).
