The Chicago Cubs’ recent addition is expected to become their first baseman of the future.

Chicago Cubs ANUNCIÓ 19 invitados al Spring Training 2024

This offseason, the Chicago Cubs acquired a promising prospect who is expected to become their future first baseman.

During the offseason, the Chicago Cubs aimed to enhance their first base position. Following a season with a rotating lineup at first base in 2023, the team’s front office sought a permanent solution. Initially, they considered Cody Bellinger as a potential candidate for the role if they re-signed him, while Pete Crow-Armstrong continued in center field. However, with Bellinger remaining a free agent, the Cubs traded with the Los Angeles Dodgers to acquire Michael Busch. Busch, a highly regarded prospect, has been ranked in the top five of the Dodgers’ pipeline every year since 2021.

Despite being a consensus Top-100 prospect in minor league baseball, Busch did not make his MLB debut until last season. In 27 games, he posted a slash line of .167/.247/.292 with two home runs and seven RBI.

However, at 26 years old, Busch is considered a talented player with the potential to be a valuable contributor for an extended period.

This is one of the reasons why Joel Reuter of Bleacher Report believes Busch will become the Cubs’ first baseman of the future, as he assesses the five-year plan for each Major League team at that position.

That’s logical.

The Cubs traded a promising young pitching prospect, highly regarded by many scouts for his potential, to acquire the talented young slugger.

Busch has demonstrated impressive power in the minor leagues, hitting .323/.431/.618 with 27 home runs and 90 RBI in 98 Triple-A games last year.

He is expected to have the chance to display his skills this season with the Cubs, and there’s a chance he could immediately assume the starting role.
