Broncos v Sharks: Good news key man returns and good to go; Nicho Hynes rested

Broncos v Sharks - Round 8, 2022 - Match Centre | NRL.com

The Sharks need a turnaround and hope to reclaim the form that led them to seven straight victories as they go to Brisbane following two disheartening losses.

The Sharks gave up 106 points in their last three games, handing up first place on the table to Melbourne on points differential, after only surrendering 14 points per game during the first ten rounds.

Sharks coach Craig Fitzgibbon has chosen to rest main man Nicho Hynes after Origin One, giving Braydon Trindall and Daniel Atkinson the chance to make amends for a disappointing outing against the Eels.

The Broncos have Payne Haas, Pat Carrigan, Reece Walsh and Selwyn Cobbo all taking part in Origin One so coach Kevin Walters has some big calls to make around players backing up.

Star centre Kotoni Staggs returns from a rib injury in a boost for the Broncos, who went down in a tight one to the Titans before a bye in Round 13 to rest some weary bodies.

Team News

Broncos: Coach Kevin Walters has named Maroons trio Pat Carrigan, Selwyn Cobbo and Reece Walsh and Blues prop Payne Haas to back up from Origin One. All four will have to be cleared on Thursday afternoon but will take their place if fit. The likes of Tristan Sailor, Fletcher Baker and Martin Taupau are among the reserves if required. The return of centre Kotoni Staggs from a rib injury sees Josiah Karapani drop to the reserves.

Sharks: Blues halfback Nicho Hynes will be rested this weekend with Daniel Atkinson and Braydon Trindall again teaming up in the halves. The club’s other Origin rep Cam McInnes has been named to back up three days after his Blues debut so Jack Williams reverts to the bench. The loss of Teig Wilton to a shoulder injury brings Siosifa Talakai into the starting side. The new face on the bench is Tuku Hau Tapuha, who has been recalled to the side after playing NSW Cup last week. Braden Hamlin-Uele is the man to make way.
