South Carolina basketball alum Aliyah Boston and teammate Caitlin Clark make history

South Carolina basketball legend Aliyah Boston and teammate Caitlin Clarke made history on Wednesday during the Indiana Fever’s game against the Dallas Wings.

Arguably the best young duo in the WNBA is Aliyah Boston and Caitlin Clark. The South Carolina basketball and Iowa basketball legends likely will be the two most recent Rookie of the Years in the league (Boston won the 2023 award, and Clark is the favorite to win in 2024), and if the Fever can add a couple of pieces (and maybe bring in a new coach), they will be a scary team in the future.

Wednesday night’s game between the Indiana Fever and Dallas Wings showed just how good Boston and Clark can be together.

In what became a heart-breaking loss in the final minutes, the Fever scored 93 points, and Boston and Clark scored 52 of them, making or assisting on 32 of the team’s 38 buckets. Clark broke the all-time WNBA record for assists by dropping 19 dimes, and Boston set a new career-high in scoring with 28 points.

The two stat lines were majorly impressive. Boston scored 28 points but also added 8 rebounds, 4 blocks, and 3 steals while shooting 11-14 from the field. Of her 11 makes, 9 of them came off of Clark assists. Clark went 10-19 for 24 points to go with her 19 assists and 6 rebounds. Boston assisted on 2 of her point guard’s baskets, as well. The 9 assists from Clark to Boston are the most from one teammate to another in a single game this season (it could be the best number in league history, but older stats in the WNBA are hard to come by).

Boston and Clark have the Fever in the WNBA playoff picture as they sit 7th in the current standings (3rd in the Eastern Conference). The top-8 teams in the league make the postseason, so South Carolina basketball fans could be in line to watch Aliyah Boston in the WNBA playoffs for the first time.
