Breaking: Packers to replace Josh Myers with ‘Hall of Fame’ center

The offensive line of the Green Bay Packers will soon get reinforcements. In the 2024 NFL Draft, the Packers will need to make a number of decisions after losing three starting players to free agency. The Packers also need to think about Josh Myers’ future. With just one year left on his deal, the former second-round pick’s ability to start at centre beyond 2024 is in doubt.

While Myers has shown promise in developing into a strong starter, his inconsistent play still raises questions. In a four-game span between Weeks 10 and 13, Myers gave up zero sacks, three pressures, one hurry, and two QB hits, per PFF. But in the following four games, he allowed two sacks, thirteen pressures, and eleven hurries. Should Green Bay remain unconvinced that Myers is the long-term solution, it may consider pursuing a top centre prospect such as Graham Barton or Jackson Powers-Johnson. But the next starting centre for the Packers may already be on the team.

NFL insider reveals Packers believe Zach Tom can become ‘Hall of Fame’ center

Not only is Myers’ replacement potentially already on the roster, but it could also create a major shakeup along the offensive line. ESPN’s Rob Demovsky provided a significant development on the Wilde & Tausch show.

“I think the starting center is on this team right now, but it’s not Josh Myers,” Demovsky said. “I was told by a couple of people within the organization, they think Zach Tom is a Pro Bowl right tackle, an All-Pro guard, and a potential Hall-of-Fame center. So there’s your center.”

Wow. If the Packers believe Tom has Hall of Fame potential at center, he should be playing there right now, regardless of Myers’ status.

There is reason to believe in Tom’s potential at center. Although predicting he could be a future Hall-of-Famer is a bold take, he could absolutely become an All-Pro player. Not only does Tom have college experience at center, but his Relative Athletic Score is a perfect 10 at the position.

If the Packers view Tom as their long-term starting center, it increases the need to draft multiple tackles. They wouldn’t just need depth but an eventual starter to replace Tom at right tackle. Their pre-draft interest in Georgia’s Amarius Mims and Oklahoma’s Tyler Guyton would add up—they both played right tackle in college.

It’s way too early to call Tom a potential Hall of Famer, but a move to center would make sense for the former fourth-round pick. The Packers’ draft moves will give us a clearer indication of their plans.

If they select Jackson Powers-Johnson at No. 25, it’s a good sign Tom is staying where he is. If they prioritize true tackle prospects who are unlikely to move inside, like Amarius Mims and Tyler Guyton, it could indicate Tom’s future is at center.
