Breaking News: ZZ Top Announces New Bassist to Replace Dusty Hill

In a highly anticipated move, legendary rock band ZZ Top has announced the appointment of a new bassist to replace the late Dusty Hill, who passed away in July 2021.

The band revealed that Elwood Francis, who had been filling in for Hill during the band’s recent tours, will officially take on the role permanently.

Dusty Hill’s death marked the end of an era for ZZ Top, as the bassist had been an integral part of the band for over 50 years.

His distinctive beard, sunglasses, and deep, steady basslines helped define the band’s signature sound, blending blues, boogie, and rock.

Fans and critics alike have been wondering who could step into such iconic shoes.

Francis, who had worked as the band’s guitar tech for decades, had already been playing bass with ZZ Top since Hill’s passing, and his seamless transition was met with widespread approval.

“Elwood has been a part of the ZZ Top family for a long time, and we’re confident that he will carry forward Dusty’s legacy while continuing to bring his own unique energy to the stage,” said bandmates Billy Gibbons and Frank Beard in a statement.

ZZ Top also acknowledged the emotional difficulty of replacing Hill but emphasized that the band was committed to honoring his memory by carrying on his spirit.

“Dusty’s presence will always be with us,” said Gibbons. “We’re proud to continue making music in his honor, and we’re thrilled to have Elwood with us as we move forward.”

Fans can expect ZZ Top to continue their touring schedule, with new performances and possibly fresh material in the coming months.

The band’s loyal fanbase has embraced Francis, eager to see how the group will evolve while preserving the essence of what made them rock icons in the first place.
