As the Tennessee Titans navigate the 2024 NFL season, they will inevitably face difficult decisions regarding their roster. With injuries, performance concerns, and salary cap limitations looming, it’s likely that a few players will be cut before the end of October. Here are three Titans who could be on the chopping block.
1. Caleb Farley (CB)
Caleb Farley, a 2021 first-round draft pick, has had a tough time staying healthy during his NFL career. Despite his raw athleticism and potential, Farley has been plagued by injuries, including multiple back surgeries. Even when healthy, his on-field performance hasn’t lived up to expectations, with inconsistency in coverage and occasional lapses in technique. With the emergence of young cornerbacks like Roger Treylon and Kristian Fulton, the Titans might decide to part ways with Farley, especially if they feel his injury history is a liability moving forward. Cutting him would free up some cap space and allow the team to move forward with more reliable options in the secondary.
2. Treylon Burks (WR)
While this might seem like a surprising pick, Treylon Burks’ struggles to make a consistent impact could lead to a tough decision. Drafted in the first round in 2022, Burks was expected to be a centerpiece of the Titans’ passing game. However, he’s dealt with injuries and inconsistency, which have hampered his ability to be the reliable playmaker Tennessee envisioned. With DeAndre Hopkins emerging as the go-to target and younger receivers like Kyle Philips showing promise, the Titans could consider moving on from Burks if he doesn’t show significant improvement. A mid-season cut could be shocking but might be necessary if the team decides to shift its offensive focus.
3. Dillon Radunz (OL)
Dillon Radunz, a second-round pick in 2021, was drafted to be a key piece of the Titans’ offensive line, but he hasn’t developed into a consistent starter. Injuries and struggles in pass protection have limited his playing time, and the Titans have shown a willingness to experiment with other players along the offensive line. With Nicholas Petit-Frere returning from suspension and new acquisitions like Andre Dillard stepping up, Radunz could be the odd man out. If his development stalls further or injuries continue to sideline him, the Titans might look to cut their losses and find more reliable depth elsewhere.
Cutting these players would be tough, but such moves might be necessary as the Titans aim to stay competitive in a tough AFC South.
