As the New England Patriots navigate through the 2024 NFL season, it’s clear that roster adjustments will continue to be a part of their process. By the end of October, three players in particular may find themselves on the outside looking in, as the team strives to optimize its performance and adapt to the rigors of the season.
### 1. **DeVante Parker (WR)**
DeVante Parker has had his moments, but his inconsistency, coupled with health concerns, could lead to his departure. While he has flashed the potential to be a big-play receiver, Parker’s productivity has often been underwhelming, especially when considering the Patriots’ passing game struggles. With the emergence of younger wide receivers like Demario Douglas and Tyquan Thornton, Parker may become expendable. The Patriots value versatility and reliability, and if Parker continues to struggle to find a consistent role in the offense, he could be on the chopping block.
### 2. **Mike Gesicki (TE)**
Mike Gesicki was brought in to complement Hunter Henry and add another weapon to the Patriots’ offense, but he has not lived up to expectations so far. The Patriots’ Rhamondre has struggled to maximize his potential as a pass-catching tight end, and his lack of impact as a blocker limits his overall utility. Bill Belichick values tight ends who can contribute in all phases of the game, and Gesicki’s one-dimensional nature might work against him. If the offense doesn’t improve and Gesicki fails to carve out a significant role, the team could decide to move on from him before the trade deadline or shortly after.
### 3. **Kevin Harris (RB)**
Kevin Harris, a young running back, was thought to be a potential asset for the Patriots’ backfield rotation, but he has struggled to make an impression. With Rhamondre Stevenson and Ezekiel Elliott firmly ahead of him on the depth chart, Harris has found opportunities hard to come by. His lack of special teams contribution further diminishes his chances of staying on the roster. The Patriots may opt to clear his roster spot to add depth elsewhere, especially if injuries arise or if the team feels the need to bring in a more dynamic playmaker.
As the Patriots look to rebound from their early-season struggles, tough decisions are inevitable. These three players, while talented, could be seen as expendable if they don’t show improvement by the end of October.
