Ryan Blaney, a NASCAR Cup veteran and the 2023 points champion, says there should be a competition between drivers on who gets the most one-fingered salutes from the knowledgeable Bowman Gray Stadium racing fans. “I wonder if we should all keep track to see who gets the most,” Blaney said with a chuckle about Sunday night’s Clash race, a 200-lapper that will be run on one of the most historic short tracks in the country.
The flipping off of the drivers is just part of the atmosphere that the Cup drivers will experience on Sunday night when some 15,000 fans stuff the historic track. It’s a ritual at all the Saturday nights during the summer racing series at Bowman Gray, and there should be some of that atmosphere on Sunday.
