BREAKING NEWS: Providence promising star added to 2024 award watch list

Providence College’s junior lacrosse standout, Ryan Bell hailing from Smithtown, New York, has garnered recognition by being included in the 2024 Tewaaraton Watch List. The Tewaaraton Foundation’s announcement on March 27 marked Bell’s addition to the prestigious list, making him the third Providence College player to receive this honor. He joins the ranks of former Friar goaltenders Toby Burgdorf ’21 and Tate Boyce ’19, elevating the college’s representation in this esteemed recognition.

The Tewaaraton Award stands as an annual tribute to the most outstanding male and female collegiate lacrosse players in the United States. The selection process involves elite college coaches serving on selection committees appointed yearly by the Tewaaraton Foundation.

Bell’s inclusion in the Tewaaraton Watch List is a testament to his remarkable performance on the field. Notably named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team, he currently leads the Friars in both points, tallying 40, and assists, boasting an impressive 26. Bell recently etched his name in Providence College’s lacrosse history by becoming only the second player in the program’s annals to achieve 100 career assists. With a mere three more assists, he is poised to claim the title of the program’s all-time leader in assists. His prowess extends beyond mere statistics, as he ranks 12th among Division I players in assists per game, boasting an average of 2.89, and holds the 23rd spot nationwide in points per game, averaging 4.44. Furthermore, Bell’s outstanding contributions have earned him accolades such as the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week award, received on March 11, and recognition on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, bestowed upon him on February 5.
