Several college football programs that were once prominent in the sport are hoping that 2025 will mark a return to glory. These teams would like to have a resurgence like the Texas Longhorns, who experienced a great run in the 2000s but struggled in the 2010s before having back-to-back College Football Playoff appearances. The Florida Gators are aiming to be the next team to reclaim their former success. Under Urban Meyer, Florida had an incredible end to the 2000s, winning national titles in 2006 and 2008. However, since Meyer’s departure following the 2010 season, the Gators have faced challenges, recording five losing seasons and only four seasons with 10 or more wins.
Last season, the Gators broke their three-year streak of losing seasons by finishing with an 8-5 record and winning their last four games. On “The Paul Finebaum Show,” SEC Network analyst Paul Finebaum expressed high hopes for the upcoming 2025 season. He believes that sophomore quarterback DJ Lagway has the potential to lead the Gators back to the top.
