Breaking News: Newcastle offered ‘€35m + €15m’ for Benfica star – One to watch in 2025?

If reports emerging from Portugal are to be believed, Benfica star Antonio Silva is a name to watch our for in Newcastle United’s search for a new right-sided centre-back.

  • As revealed by Sport Witness, this week’s edition of A Bola reveals that Newcastle had a bid worth €50m rejected for the Portuguese international over the summer and may reignite their interest in 2025.

They report that there’s ‘serious interest’ from Italian giants Juventus, but Newcastle are mentioned as likely competitors for Silva’s signature after offering a reported €35m plus €15m in potential bonuses over the summer.

A Bola say that this offer was rejected by Benfica, who have no plans to sell the 21-year-old January. However, the report does suggest that the Portuguese giants may be open to a sale next summer, where a similar offer of €35m plus €15m may be considered as he approaches the final two years of his contract in Lisbon.

Silva has been on the bench in five of Benfica’s 11 league games this season and has only started half of their Champions League games this term, suggesting a recent dip in performance levels.
Time will tell if Newcastle are seriously pursuing Silva as a potential alternative to Marc Guehi, who has also been tipped to depart next summer – when his contract will have 12 months left to run – opposed to a mid-season exit in January.
