Officers were dispatched around 8:30 p.m. Friday to the 3000 block of East 8th Street in Kansas City’s Independence Plaza neighborhood on a report of an armed disturbance. They found a man who matched the description given in the dispatch call at the door of a first-floor apartment.
When officers tried to speak to him, the man shut the door and barricaded himself inside the apartment, KCPD spokeswoman Alayna Gonzalez said in an email. Officers heard gunshots from inside the residence and established a perimeter around the home, police said.
