The Washington Commanders have solidified their spot in the NFC Championship for the first time since 1991 with a 45-31 upset victory over the No. 1 seeded Detroit Lions. Former Michigan Wolverine Mike Sainristil played a major role, collecting two crucial interceptions to swing the momentum in Washington’s favor.
Sainristil gave the Lions a preview for a brutal second half, picking off quarterback Jared Goff’s pass intended for Jamaal Williams with 35 seconds remaining in the first half. The former Wolverine later disrupted a questionable trick play, picking off a deep ball thrown by Williams intended for Jahmyr Gibbs.
