Injuries in the National Football League have decreased this season according to league executive Jeff Miller, but the NFC leading Detroit Lions have been hit as hard as any other team in that department. The Lions are hoping to secure home field advantage throughout the NFC Playoffs as they head down the stretch of the 2024-2025 season as they attempt to pick up the pieces of a roster decimated by injuries. Detroit had a league-high 18 players on injured reserve prior to cornerback Carlton Davis III suffering a broken jaw and defensive tackle Alim McNeill suffering a season-ending torn ACL against the Bills. The Lions placed their two key defenders on injured reserve Tuesday along with backup cornerback Khalil Dorsey, who suffered a fractured leg this past Sunday.
On Monday, a prominent Detroit sports website gave Lions fans the opportunity to vent on coach Dan Campbell’s team’s injury woes as Detroit prepared to hit the road to take on Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears this Sunday.
Lions fans this is a safe space, how are you feeling right now?” the page Woodward Sports asked on its X account.
Responses varied wildly from fans content with the Lions’ performance to those who appeared exasperated by the injury woes that have taken place in recent weeks. “Sad and frustrated,” one fan said. “We’re so close and it just seems like every week we’re moving backwards health wise.
“Let’s win these last 3, get the bye and hopefully find a way to piece this team together again. After that it’s just another three wins for a ring.” Detroit has a road game scheduled against the San Francisco 49ers on Monday, Dec. 30 followed by their showdown against the Vikings at Ford Field on Jan. 5 to close out the regular season. “It’s one freaking loss, why is everyone losing their minds?!?!” another fan added. “Great. I’ve loved this team since I was a kid. I’m 31 now. What I’m seeing is amazing and I haven’t seen it in my lifetime by my team. I feel good. We will get a #SuperBowl. #OnePride,” another fan said.
One fan suggested a change to Lions owner Sheila Ford Hampton amid the team’s familiar injury struggles. “Hate the injuries,” they said. “If they have their next two games on grass, and have no injuries, the owner needs to consider growing grass nearby and putting it in the stadium for games,” they said. “This is insane.”
