The Detroit Lions are set to return to action against the Washington Commanders on Saturday night for their divisional round matchup. And according to some recent reports, it sounds like head coach Dan Campbell has a unique plan for how he will utilize his two star running backs, Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery. Gibbs and Montgomery are arguably the best running back duo in the NFL, but they were broken up in Week 15 when Montgomery suffered what was feared to be a season-ending MCL injury. However, further testing revealed he’d be able to return in the postseason, and he will be on the field when Detroit plays against Washington. In Montgomery’s absence, though, Gibbs took his game to another level, racking up at least 150 total yards in each of Detroit’s final three games. And while Montgomery is set to make a triumphant return, Campbell is expected to continue to roll with Gibbs as his top running back for their clash with the Commanders.
“Most people I’ve talked to expect Jahmyr Gibbs to remain the RB1 right now because he’s really got it going,” Jeremy Fowler said on “Sportscenter.” “Montgomery will have a role, but I know the Commanders are preparing for Gibbs in a big way.”
