The Dallas Cowboys made a significant roster move on Tuesday, releasing former second-round draft pick Andrew Booth, a cornerback who struggled to make an impact with the team.
Booth, originally selected by the Minnesota Vikings with the No. 42 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, was traded to the Cowboys earlier this season after spending two years in Minnesota.
Despite his promising college career at Clemson, Booth was unable to find consistent success in the NFL.
In just three games for Dallas this year, he recorded six total tackles, but it wasn’t enough to earn a spot moving forward.
With the trade deadline looming, Booth’s release is a surprising move, especially considering the Cowboys’ need for depth in the secondary.
Booth will now go through waivers, where other teams have the option to claim him, or he could end up on a practice squad if no team picks him up.
This move adds to a series of changes for the Cowboys, who also traded a fourth-round pick to the Carolina Panthers earlier in the day for wide receiver Jonathan Mingo.
With quarterback Dak Prescott expected to miss several weeks due to a hamstring injury, the team’s future remains uncertain.
Nevertheless, the release of Booth highlights the team’s ongoing effort to adjust and strengthen their roster ahead of the stretch run.
