As Manchester City found out once again on Saturday, few places in England roar like St James’ Park.
After a disappointing defeat to Fulham last weekend Newcastle United returned to the North East and gave the champions a tough time.
In the end, the points were shared, but the 1-1 scoreline did little to reflect the frenetic intensity the Premier League clash was played with.
In the black and white of Newcastle, it was hard to see past the performance of Anthony Gordon who won and scored the penalty which earned a point.
The team’s best player by a considerable margin he led the press and ran dangerously behind the backline.
How he lifted Newcastle United’s performance was well summarised by former Manchester City defender Micah Richards.
“I think when you are analyzing [Manchester] City, you talk, can they break a team down? It was a little bit slow today, a little bit flat,” he said on England’s flagship highlights TV show Match of the Day.
