New Mexico vs. New Mexico State Odds, Picks: Saturday College Football Betting Preview

Senior guard Jamal Mashburn Jr., a key player for the New Mexico Lobo men’s basketball team, has made the decision to enter the transfer portal. This move comes as Mashburn Jr. prepares to graduate this spring, leaving him with one remaining year of eligibility as a graduate transfer.

Mashburn Jr. initially joined the UNM Lobos during his sophomore year, following head coach Richard Pitino from Minnesota to New Mexico. Throughout the season, he proved to be a vital asset, averaging 14.1 points and 2.2 rebounds per game. Notably, Mashburn Jr. achieved a significant milestone by entering New Mexico’s top-10 all-time scoring list, accumulating a total of 1,629 points. His prowess on the court also led him to secure the title of Mountain West Conference scoring leader in the previous season.

Alongside fellow teammate Jaelen House, Mashburn Jr. played a crucial role in the resurgence of the Lobo men’s basketball program, contributing to the growth of its fanbase. The pinnacle of their efforts was marked by clinching the Mountain West Conference Championship and earning a spot in the NCAA tournament as the No. 11 seed in their final year.

However, the Lobos’ journey in the tournament came to an end with a 77-56 defeat against the Clemson Tigers, concluding their season.

In addition to Mashburn Jr., another Lobo player, Sebastian Forsling, also entered the transfer portal on the same day, signaling potential changes for the team’s roster.

As the offseason progresses, the departure of Mashburn Jr. and Forsling raises questions about the future composition of the Lobo men’s basketball team and how they will navigate the upcoming season.
