The Biggest Texas Longhorns Mystery Unveiled by ESPN Before the 2024 Season

Texas remains at No. 7 in the College Football Playoff rankings - Burnt Orange Nation

In terms of college football teams, the Texas Longhorns are thought to be among the best in the nation in 2024.

The Texas Longhorns have been aiming to reclaim their place among the nation’s top programs for the last ten years, and in 2023 they succeeded.

They were able to make it into the final four-team College Football Playoff and win the Big 12 championship. As they prepare for the 2024 season, their goals are to continue their current winning ways and advance to compete for the national championship.

Following the great year, Texas lost a ton of talent—especially on offense—to the NFL Draft, as was to be expected. ESPN has expressed concerns over the unit’s appearance for the upcoming season as a result.

The most important springtime queries concerning each of the top 25 teams were covered in a recent ESPN piece. Regarding the passing game, the Longhorns—who came in fourth place behind Georgia, Ohio State, and Oregon, respectively—are being questioned. In general, the question is reasonable because Texas did lose its three best receivers as well as its standout tight end.

Nevertheless, the Longhorns used the transfer portal to make one of the biggest offseason acquisitions in college football history, led by Isaiah Bond, a transfer from Alabama. ESPN’s Dave Wilson noted that the team did get some much-needed experience with Bond, Oregon State transfer Silas Bolden, Alabama tight end transfer Amari Niblack, and Houston transfer Matthew Golden, but they still need to figure out the best combinations.

“This time last season, Steve Sarkisian said getting Quinn Ewers comfortable and the deep passing game going was a point of emphasis,” Wilson wrote. “In Texas’ final Big 12 season, Ewers replied with 3,479 yards and 22 touchdowns to just six interceptions, while Xavier Worthy was able to get more long passes thanks to Adonai Mitchell’s arrival. However, Johntay Cook leads the incumbents with eight catches from the previous season, while Mitchell,  Whittington, and tight end Ja’Tavion Sanders have all left for the NFL.

However, that does not iWorthy, Jordanmply that talent is lacking. Along with top receiver Ryan Wingo, ranked No. 27 in this year’s ESPN 300, Sarkisian recruited transfers Isaiah Bond (Alabama), Silas Bolden (Oregon State), Matthew Golden (Houston), and tight end Amari Niblack (Alabama). Finding the ideal mixtures and perfecting the timing are now the only tasks left to complete.”

Fortunately for Texas, Ewers made significant progress in his development during his second season as the starter, so it is reasonable to assume he will advance even more. He must continue to be reliable in every facet of his game since he is the offense’s focal point more than ever. It should be easy to stay consistent with three great transfers added, but it’s now up to Ewers to step it up and become one of the best signal-callers in the nation.
