Adelaide utility player Ned McHenry emphasizes the team-first mindset and the collective desire for improvement driving the Crows as they approach the 2024 AFL season. With the season commencing in just over a month and pre-season nearing completion, the competition for spots in the Round One lineup is intensifying.

Speaking to the media, McHenry acknowledges the competitive atmosphere as players strive to earn a spot in the opening round match. However, he emphasizes that the primary focus remains on what benefits the team as they aim to end their finals drought. The collective improvement is seen as a challenging yet crucial aspect that forces individuals to enhance their skills and competitiveness during training.

Expressing his personal goal of playing AFL footy and securing a position in the team, McHenry notes that every player shares the ambition to contribute at the highest level. The competition for spots within the team is perceived as healthy, with players complementing each other, contributing to a mix that aids in Adelaide Crows’ success. The cooperative effort involves both the coaching group and the playing group, with a commitment from all members.

Approaching his sixth AFL season with the Crows, the 23-year-old finds this year’s pre-season the most enjoyable. He attributes this enjoyment to a sense of maturity and confidence in understanding pre-season expectations. Despite the challenges, McHenry feels physically better this year, emphasizing the engaging nature of the footy program implemented by the coaching staff.

The upcoming pre-season fixture for Adelaide includes a community trip to Port Lincoln, featuring various community activities and an internal trial before a game against Port Adelaide on February 23. Subsequently, the Crows will engage in an official AAMI Community Series game against West Coast before kicking off their 2024 AFL season against Gold Coast on Saturday, March 16.
