The key player of UNC Football Star Suffers Untimely Injury in Indy

Josh Downs was a three-year outstanding wide receiver for UNC football who accumulated nearly 2,500 yards and twenty touchdowns through the air. The 22-year-old rookie wide receiver from Georgia was selected in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft. He surprised the Indianapolis Colts by hauling in 68 receptions for 771 yards and two touchdowns.

And starting with the team’s season opener at home against the Houston Texans on September 8, the 5-foot-10, 175-pound speedster has been eager to build on that extremely encouraging early professional success.

But now, just days away from turning 23, Downs is supposedly out of commission for four to six weeks because of a high ankle sprain he sustained during Wednesday’s 7-on-7 practice action for Indianapolis.

The Indianapolis Colts Jake Arthur of SI explained the events in detail:

“QB Anthony Richardson hit slot receiver Josh Downs on a short out route toward the left side during the first 7-on-7 practice. After providing coverage, safety Nick Cross tackled Downs along the sideline, causing the second-year receiver to visibly hurt himself.
