Breaking New: The ‘classy gesture’ the Lions extended Za’Darius Smith upon trading for him……

The NFL trade deadline is now past, and the Detroit Lions had to do something to fill the void that Aidan Hutchinson’s season-ending injury left.
The Lions cut a deal with the Cleveland Browns to acquire defensive end Za’Darius Smith.

However, if you didn’t happen to notice, he did not make it into pads on Sunday night for the Lions’ big come-from-behind victory over the Houston Texans on Sunday Night Football.

The Lions did him a solid before suiting up in blue, white, and silver.

Smith, who has bounced around the league, has a home in Florida, and he has yet to make it back down there to survey the damage of Hurricane Milton from last month. The Lions gave him the opportunity through a few loopholes in the trade.

Technically, the Browns were on a bye week while the trade was going down. The Lions decided to give Smith the chance to head down to the Sunshine State to take care of the personal matter, and Dan Campbell and company would label him out for Sunday’s game for personal reasons.

An NFL agent said, “They didn’t need to do that, but they did it because they respect players. That goes a long way.” Adding that “Not many teams would do that, truthfully.”

The classy gesture goes to show you the culture Dan Campbell has created in Detroit. If the Lions are going to become a title contender, then it starts with how they treat their players.

Smith is expected to make his debut this Sunday at Ford Field against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
