NEWS NOW: Big boost to the Pittsburgh Steelers’ prospects of winning the Brandon Aiyuk sweepstakes

The New England Patriots have withdrawn from the Brandon Aiyuk sweepstakes, as Adam Schefter of ESPN originally reported. The Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Browns are the only clubs still mentioned. But it appears that Aiyuk is adamant about moving to Pittsburgh, and the 49ers need to give him the correct kind of money in order to trade him.

Pittsburgh Steelers' chances of winning Brandon Aiyuk sweepstakes get big boost

After months of back-and-forth over the deal, the 49ers are finally open to these offers from the Steelers. With Aiyuk’s ability to veto a deal, Pittsburgh seems to be the team leading the chase.

Aiyuk hopes to make over $30 million a year as one of the NFL’s best receivers. The 49ers liked the package Aiyuk signed with the Patriots, and the team was eager to pay him, but Aiyuk’s hesitation to sign a long-term deal with the team delayed things. Aiyuk is not in Cleveland or New England for this reason.

Considering all of that, the Steelers appear to be the obvious destination for Aiyuk if the 49ers decide to trade for him. He could team up with George Pickens to form a potent outside wide receiver tandem and cap off what looks to be an entirely redesigned offense under Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith.
