Jon Runyan Jr., an offensive lineman with the Green Bay Packers, inked a contract with the New York Giants this summer after leaving the team. Thirty million dollars was the total contract value for three years, with seventeen million guaranteed. The New York Jets were also taking a look at Runyan Jr.
This offseason, he had the opportunity to get back together with former Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Randall Cobb and Allen Lazard, two former Packers players, joined Rodgers in the New York Jets during the previous campaign.

This season, Runyan Jr. will need to be replaced on the offensive line by someone from Green Bay. On the offensive line for the New York Giants, he is expected to start this season.

The Jets definitely needed offensive line support throughout the summer. The Giants surely needed to add an offensive lineman to the roster because they had one of the weakest offensive lines in the previous campaign.

The New York Post’s Ryan Dunleavy interviewed Jon Runyan Jr. on Friday to discuss his decision to join with the Giants rather than the Jets. Runyan Jr. stated:

One could argue that the Jets are primed to win the Super Bowl this year. However, I believe that this franchise is developing over the next four or five years, not only for this year. I was pretty thrilled about it because of that. It’s fantastic that I always feel so welcomed and wanted when I come here.

He’s right that the New York Jets and Aaron Rodgers are short-term focused, but the New York Giants are long-term oriented. It’s interesting that he prefers to focus on the big picture rather than immediately winning a Super Bowl championship. It’s also noteworthy that he left the Green Bay Packers because they had long-term plans. Moreover, Runyan Jr. said:

Everything turned out okay in the end. I genuinely believe in what Joe, Brandon, Dabes, Carmen, and everyone else are creating here, even though the money is just money. From head to toe, I appreciate how this team is constructed on the offensive end of the court. There are playmakers everywhere. I’m confident that the offensive line will be excellent. We simply need to allow our quarterback enough time to complete plays.

This season, Daniel Jones’ quarterback play will be the Giants’ main concern. Since the Green Bay Packers recently signed Jordan Love to a contract extension, there won’t be a problem.
