New York still could end up landing one of the top free agent starting pitchers this offseason.

The New York Yankees still have multiple holes on the roster.

New York landed outfielders Alex Verdugo, Trent Grisham, and Juan Soto this offseason and now needs to land at least one starting pitcher. New York has been linked to a handful of starters this offseason and one player who still could be an option is former Yankee Jordan Montgomery, according to the New York Post’s Greg Joyce.

“Of course, there is another former Yankee that would be a less risky but more expensive option to fill the hole in the rotation: Jordan Montgomery,” Joyce said. The Yankees have plenty of competition for Montgomery, though, as the (Boston Red Sox), (New York Mets), (Los Angeles Angels), (San Francisco Giants), and (Texas Rangers) are also potential suitors for him.

“A year after the Yankees signed Carlos Rodón to a six-year, $162 million contract, Montgomery is in line to land a similar-looking deal coming off playing a key part in helping the Rangers win the World Series.”

Montgomery has been linked to the Yankees on multiple occasions this offseason and a move sounds possible. He was drafted by the Yankees and spent the first five-plus years of his big-league career in New York before being traded to the St. Louis Cardinals.

The 31-year-old is one of the most sought-after free-agent hurlers this offseason. He has been extremely steady over the last few years and has logged an ERA under 4.00 in each of the last three seasons.

Montgomery would be a very solid pickup and is a realistic option for the Yankees at this point.
