Nelly Korda vows for a major come back after dismissing embarrassing memory

US Women's Open Golf: Nelly Korda Braces for Her Toughest Test

Nelly Korda refuses to give up! Despite a disastrous first round at the US Women’s Open where she shot 10 over, including a rough time on the par-3 12th, the world’s #1 golfer struggled to bounce back. She ended with a total score of 8 over par after two days, resulting in an early exit from the tournament at Lancaster. After missing the cut, she acknowledged, “I tried to give it my all. That’s what I do with every round.“ However, this time, it just wasn’t enough.

Some might think Korda had lost hope, but that’s not the case and never has been. Even after going winless for 14 months before 2024, she kept her head high and returned to win five consecutive events, followed by a sixth victory. What is Nelly Korda’s vow now, after her performance at Lancaster? Let’s find out!

Nelly Korda sets her sights on the AIG Women’s Open

The upcoming major event for women’s golf is scheduled to take place at St. Andrews this year. Nelly Korda expressed that winning the AIG Women’s Open at St. Andrews would be a “special” achievement. After the US Women’s Open, Korda told the Ladies European Tour website, “For a golfer, there’s no greater honor than winning a major championship. There’s no greater feeling. To do it at St. Andrews, at the home of golf – with all that history – would be so, so special,” said the LPGA’s Stargirl.

Korda is extremely excited for the AIG Women’s Open, stating, “I’m super excited about how the week will turn out. We’re playing at the home of golf, so I’m expecting it to be an amazing week. There’s so much history at St. Andrews, and I’m thrilled to be a part of that, to walk out on the Old Course and compete there.”

St. Andrews has hosted many tournaments and has seen some of the most prominent male golfers over the years. In 1978, Jack Nicklaus, an 18-time major winner, won the Open Championship there. Tiger Woods also claimed victory at the Open at St. Andrews in 2000 and 2005. The course has also hosted pros like Nick Faldo, John Daly, and others.

The AIG Women’s Open is slated for August 21st–25th, 2024, at the renowned Old Course in St Andrews, Scotland. With excitement growing over Nelly Korda’s potential third major title, there are over two months until the event. In the meantime, is she competing in other LPGA Tour events?

Where is Nelly Korda playing next before the AIG Women’s Open?

Curiously, the golfer won’t be participating in the ShopRite LPGA Classic, set to start on June 7th. The event will feature 144 golfers, including defending champion Ashleigh Buha. However, Korda is expected to join the competition following the one in New Jersey, when the LPGA moves to the Blythefield Country Club in Michigan for the Meijer LPGA Classic.

Three years ago, at the Meijer LPGA Classic, 25-year-old Korda clinched victory by a two-stroke margin over Leona Maguire. It marked her fifth career win on the LPGA Tour, a number that has now grown to 14.
