With the January transfer window around the corner, Rangers and Philippe Clement will be planning how they can strengthen their side in search of the Scottish Premiership title.

While there are gaps throughout the Light Blues’ squad, once again it is at the top end of the pitch where Rangers need the most strengthening with a new striker capable of finding the net regularly top of Clement’s shopping list.

One player reportedly of interest is Aberdeen striker Bojan Miovski but any potential deal for the North Macedonia international would be a Scottish record fee, upwards of £4.4million [The Sun, 6 December].

However, Rangers have received a slight boost to their hopes of signing the 24-year-old, with Aberdeen CEO Alan Burrows admitting that he cannot assure supporters that Miovski will be kept beyond the January transfer window.

As quoted in the Glasgow Times (12 December) he said: “We are in no rush to sell Bojan Miovski. Aberdeen have a player trading model that requires you, at times when it suits you, to sell. However, that has to be at the value you believe is right for the club.

“I can’t give any assurances because I don’t know what any other club is going to do. We are not actively seeking to sell Bojan as we go into the January transfer window.

“Our anticipation is Bojan will be here for beyond that period.”

Bojan Miovski: Aberdeen do not expect to sell striker in January

It is clear that if Rangers want to sign Miovski this January, they will have to pay a reasonable fee to tempt Aberdeen into parting company with their star forward, but the deal is certainly possible even if expensive.

Clement needs a new number nine as none of the current options at Ibrox are capable of scoring the goals to fire them to the title this season. Cyriel Dessers, Sam Lammers and Danilo have all flattered to deceive in Glasgow, whereas Miovski has shown he is capable of scoring regularly in the Premiership.

In all competitions this season, the 24-year-old has found the net 11 times, including six Scottish Premiership strikes in 15 matches. If Rangers were to secure his services for the second half of the campaign, it could be a huge boost to their title hopes.

The Light Blues will have to match Aberdeen’s asking price, but this feels like a potential deal worth pursuing. If the Ibrox board pay the right price, they have the chance to finally fix their number one problem.
