Rangers 4-2 Capitals (Apr 28, 2024) Final Score - ESPN

Every hockey fan is thrilled about the Florida Panthers and New York Rangers series, as both teams compete for a spot in the Finals and a chance to win the Stanley Cup. The action on the ice is non-stop from the moment the puck drops.

However, it’s not just the puck that’s moving fast; players are also taking hard hits, leading to significant penalties. In a recent game, an important Rangers player faced a severe punishment from league officials.

Jacob Trouba, captain of the Rangers, was fined by the NHL for elbowing the Panthers’ Evan Rodrigues. This incident occurred during a game that the Rangers eventually won in overtime, giving them a 3-1 lead in the series.

The fine imposed on Trouba was $5,000, the maximum allowed under the new collective bargaining agreement, which is still a substantial amount for a hockey player.

What happen during the game that led to the incident on the ice?

Jacob Trouba seized an opportunity during the second period at the 17:35 mark, slashing Sam Bennett, which resulted in a four-minute power play for the Panthers.

Despite Florida’s aggressive push, it was the Rangers who capitalized, with Barclay Goodrow scoring his second goal of the game, bringing his playoff total to six.

Many felt that Trouba deserved a major penalty for the hit, but ultimately, the team managed to secure the win despite the captain’s fine.

Trouba has accumulated 20 penalty minutes in 13 games this postseason. He aims to avoid penalties in Game 4, scheduled for Tuesday.
