Cincinnati Bengals pair Tee Higgins and Trey Hendrickson have expressed their desire to be traded, leaving the team with just a few hours to negotiate a deal.

The Bengals are keen to retain both players who are contracted for the upcoming season, but they’re seeking long-term security with a new deal – something the team seems reluctant to agree on.

The Bengals would ideally like to secure both players, but they’re aware that they need to offer substantial extensions to quarterback Joe Burrow and wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase in the coming months – which could force them to part ways with both Higgins and Hendrickson.

While a deal could still be reached after the NFL Draft, it’s less likely, as Cincinnati would need draft compensation to replace both starters.

The Bengals may have been prepared for the potential loss of starting wide receiver Higgins, especially with Chase still on the roster. However, losing Hendrickson could be a significant setback. The pass-rusher has had an outstanding season with 17.5 sacks, making him the team’s top defensive player.

Hendrickson, who joined the Bengals from the New Orleans Saints in the 2021 offseason, has since racked up 40 sacks over the past three seasons, proving to be a disruptive force on their defensive line.

He’s in the final year of his contract and is seeking an extension to stay with the team. However, with Cincinnati needing to allocate funds to their quarterback and receiver, the pass-rusher could command a day two draft pick if they agree on a deal.

On the other hand, Higgins could secure the Bengals a first-round pick should they decide to part ways with him. The skilled receiver has scored 24 touchdowns in his first four seasons, despite being a second-choice option for the last three years.
