Warren Moon Dislikes The New Oilers-Inspired Uniforms Worn by the Houston Texans

The Houston Texans introduced their new jerseys last month, and they have “H-Town” blue accents, which are similar to the blue used by the Houston Oilers and Tennessee Titans.

This is noteworthy because the Titans released Oilers throwback outfits last season because they still possess the intellectual property rights to the team, including the Columbia blue and red colour scheme.

The colour was included to the Texans’ colour palette after a “compromise” apparently struck with the NFL and the Titans, with its usage limited to an undisclosed portion of their uniforms and logos.

Included in this are the new “H” emblem for their alternate blue helmets, the “H-Town” wordmark on the inside of the collar of their home blue, red alternate, and white road jerseys, and an accent on their matching Colour Rush uniform.

Although Houston supporters are glad to get the colour back, Warren Moon, a former Oilers quarterback who played in Houston from 1984 to 1993 and was elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2006, has other feelings.

“That uniform belongs to the Tennessee Titans.” Moon stated, “They own the history of the Houston Oilers,” on Friday afternoon during an appearance on Kay Adams’ “Up & Adams.” “They had the opportunity to be the owners, but they were not interested in that ownership.

It makes obvious that they wanted to forge their own identity. They are the Houston Texans; let’s forge our own unique identity. However, they wanted it back because the Houston Oilers’ outfits were so well-liked in the past. You cannot be in two places at once.

Before relocating to Tennessee in 1997, the Oilers, who were originally established in 1960 as charter members of the AFL, played 37 seasons in Houston. Before the team changed its name to the Titans in 1999, the moniker persisted for two more seasons.

In contrast, the Texans joined the NFL in 2002 as an expansion team. Up until this offseason, their original jerseys, which wore a colour pattern inspired by the Texas state flag in red and navy blue, stayed basically the same.

“Why can’t they just hold onto what they already have?” Moon enquired. “Their initial uniform was incredibly nice-looking. Why must they constantly stress on that? I find it incomprehensible. Actually, I don’t.

Establish a unique identity. Your current football team is excellent, and they made it to the playoffs the previous season. This year they had an opportunity to perhaps attend a Super Bowl. Simply forge your own identity. The Houston Oilers should be forgotten. Put the Tennessee Titans out of your mind.

To be honest, fans can’t ignore the existence of the franchise because the Titans and Texans face each other twice a season as rival teams in the AFC South. Not helping matters is the Titans’ recent game-day wear of vintage Oilers clothes, which was a cruel joke on them.

Moon remarked, “I think this wouldn’t be as big of a deal if they weren’t in the same division.”
