Smith, who caught passes for the Buckeyes from 2013-16, was apprehended in Columbus on Wednesday morning by the U.S. Marshal Service’s Apprehension Team.

Smith is wanted in West Virginia for a federal parole violation and failure to appear in court for a 2018 aggravated robbery charge, per a spokesperson for the marshals service.

According to the spokesperson, Smith answered the door at the house on Republic Avenue where he was apprehended, but quickly shut the door on officers. He allegedly ran up to the attic and was arrested there.

Smith was sentenced to 57 months in prison in March of 2021 for his role in a drug ring with ties to Ohio and West Virginia. Smith pleaded guilty to one count of aiding and abetting possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine.

A member of the Buckeyes’ 2014 National Championship team, Smith caught 20 passes for 255 yards during the team’s title run. A JUCO transfer out of Grand Rapids Community College in Michigan, he closed a four-year Ohio State career with 31 receptions for 351 yards.
