Good news as Kentucky reportedly confirms potential commitment from ex-San Diego State star guard

Lamont Butler's buzzer-beater propels San Diego State past Florida Atlantic in NCAA men's basketball semifinals - The Boston Globe A player with national championship experience has reportedly been added to the Wildcats’ 2024–25 squad by new Kentucky coach Mark Pope.

The 6-foot-2 guard Lamont Butler, who played for four seasons at San Diego State, is said to have committed to UK as the newest player of the Pope era. The agreement was initially reported by Matt Jones of Kentucky Sports Radio on Friday.

After playing in 132 games (102 starts) over the course of four seasons for the Aztecs, Butler made the largest shot in programme history in the 2023 Final Four against Florida Atlantic, which propelled SDSU to the national championship game. Last season, he played 27.5 minutes per game and averaged 9.3 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 3.0 assists. San Diego State finished 26-11 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament’s Sweet 16 round, where it lost to eventual national champion UConn for the second consecutive year.

With Butler apparently back in the fold, Kentucky will have four players on the roster for the upcoming campaign: Travis Perry, the all-time top scorer in Kentucky high school history, a 2024 signee, former BYU signee Collin Chandler, and Drexel transfer forward Amari Williams.
