Trent Alexander-Arnold will be entering the final year of his contract at Liverpool this summer. That hasn’t gone unnoticed as links to Real Madrid continue.

Trent Alexander-Arnold has been warned he won’t be accepted by Real Madrid fans as speculation continues over his future at Liverpool.

The 25-year-old is one of three players who will be entering the final year of their contract at Liverpool this summer. Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah also have just over 12 months remaining on their current deals.

Alexander-Arnold though is viewed as a priority for the Reds, given his age and his importance to the club. Having been handed the vice-captaincy last summer by Jürgen Klopp, the academy graduate would appear to be the natural successor to Van Dijk when the Dutchman eventually leaves Anfield.

Reports have suggested Alexander-Arnold will be offered a new deal soon. Football Insider claimed last month he would receive a bigger offer than Van Dijk or Salah, although nothing has developed as of yet.

The fact Alexander-Arnold is still not tied down to a new deal hasn’t gone unnoticed. Real Madrid has been linked with a move for the versatile full-back in recent months, with Fabrizio Romano, during his appearance on the ARLS Podcast, claiming the Spanish giant ‘loves’ the Reds’ vice-captain, and views him as a potential target in a year’s time.

Emmanuel Petit though believes Madrid might not be the best place for Alexander-Arnold. The former Arsenal and Chelsea star has warned the Liverpool vice-captain that Los Blancos fans might not take to his style of defending, and urged him to stay put at Anfield.

“For generations, hardly any English players have gone abroad,” Petit told Grosvenor Sport. “Is it time for Trent to look for a new challenge? Personally, I’d like to think he will take more responsibility next season and relish his leadership role.

“Sometimes, the grass is not greener and I don’t have the feeling that Trent will support the pressure from Real Madrid. He’s in a cocoon at Liverpool, surrounded by love and support and will rarely miss a game.
