NEW YORK, N.Y.- It was announced today (April 29) that Providence College softball pitchers Alyssa Twomey and Tori Grifone were awarded BIG EAST Weekly Honors following their standout performances against Boston University and Georgetown.

Two Softball Student-Athletes Take Home BIG EAST Weekly Honors - Providence  College Athletics

Twomey, a pitcher, appeared in three of the Friars’ five games last week. She clinched the Friars’ two wins over Georgetown as she owned a 2.77 ERA with 17 strikeouts. Twomey concluded the weekend with 14 strikeouts over 14.2 innings. This honor marks Twomey’s third BIG EAST Freshman of the Week recognition, and her sixth BIG EAST Weekly nomination of her career.

 

Grifone, a pitcher, was named to the BIG EAST Weekly honor roll after her stellar performance both in the circle and at the plate for the Friars. Grifone finished the week 4-for-7 at the plate while posting a 1.000 slugging percentage, .667 on-base percentage, even bringing home a runner and scoring a run. In the 1-1 tie at Boston University on April 24, Grifone pitched six full innings, striking out seven batters and holding the Terriers scoreless. This recognition marks Grifone’s third BIG EAST Weekly honor of her career.
