Shaun Nua continues to provide value for USC coaching defensive ends
Nua is the only defensive position coach that was retained for the 2024 season, and it includes a move to coach the edge rushers.
Position coaches departed, but defensive ends coach Shaun Nua remained.
Head coach Lincoln Riley and new defensive coordinator D’Anton Lynn wiped the slate clean except for the retention of Nua, but they didn’t keep things the same. Nua’s role was shifted from coaching the defensive line to focusing on edge rushers, and he was paired with another known mentor.
Eric Henderson was hired away from the Los Angeles Rams where he had been the defensive line coach helping maximize the potential of All-Pro defensive tackle Aaron Donald and last year’s breakout rookie Kobie Turner. Henderson comes with a no frills attitude and his “DAWGWORK” mentality. He is a coach that commands his respect, but at the same time is a genuine coach, according to Nua.
“You’re talking about one of the most humble coaches out there, most accomplished coaches out there,” Nua said. “You come out here, and it’s been a blessing for me to work with him because he has a great quality. He cares really well about what he does. He has huge pride about himself in everything he does, and that includes the relationship with not only us the coaches but the players. And you can tell that, not only with how our d-line is playing, but also recruiting.”
