Salford Red Devils “part company” with another key player before new season
Salford Red Devils have confirmed the exit of Alex Gerrard ahead of the new Super League season.
This comes after the club unveiled their 2024 squad numbers including only 24 players which is one of the smallest squads in Super League’s recent history.
The club confirmed the news with the following statement:
“The prop made the switch from then-Leigh Centurions in January 2022 and has since made 31 appearances for the club, scoring three tries.
“We’d like to thank Alex for his efforts whilst representing the club and wish him the best of luck in his future.”
He becomes the third player released by the Red Devils ahead of the new season. Ken Sio was released on compassionate grounds, Joe Burgess was released for a disciplinary incident which is still being dealt with despite his move to Hull KR and now Gerrard leaves the club.

Marc Sneyd believes long field sessions in the warm weather is making ‘a massive difference’.
Speaking after day two of the club’s pre-season camp in the Algarve, where a double-field session was rounded-off by some work in the gym, Sneyd was explaining why coming away from the chilly Salford Stadium for a short while is very important.
“It makes a massive difference, doesn’t it, when you get to train in warm weather with a dry ball and get through the things you need to get through – it’s good, enjoyable,” he told their YouTube channel.
Alongside his spine, the Sneyd’s role in the team is vital; he is the one who can call and execute plays to a world-class standard, all season long.
For him, all the hard work carried out back home during the early winter months has allowed the team to ‘fine tune’ their skill in Portugal and introduce existing plays to the newer members of the squad.
He continued: “I think that all the hard work that’s gone on before we got here has allowed us to come and fine tune everything.
“To get that skill level up to the way we want to play, our skill needs to be on the money and it lets us see where we’re at fully.
“Work on them plays for the new boys offensively from an attacking point of view, get them new boys going and get them partnerships going that we’ll be looking for during the season.”
