The Lions team president Rod Wood announces the 2024 NFL season’s launch date for new uniforms.

Explaining what president Rod Wood does, and doesn't do, for the Lions

The Detroit Lions are set to debut new uniforms for the upcoming 2024 NFL season and beyond, with the official unveiling scheduled to take place before the NFL Draft in Detroit next month. The significance of the draft being held in Detroit adds to the anticipation surrounding the uniform reveal.

According to Lions team president Rod Wood, the process of developing the new uniforms has been ongoing for multiple years, with chief communications and brand officer Brian Facchini and chief operating officer Mike Disner leading the effort in collaboration with Nike and the NFL. Wood expressed his satisfaction with the outcome, teasing that while he wouldn’t give away too much, he believes fans will be pleased with the result.

Although the new uniforms won’t deviate drastically from the team’s traditional look, Wood hinted at the introduction of different combinations that will offer a fresh twist. This marks the Lions’ first uniform update since 2017 and only the third change since the 2003 season.

Team owner Ford mentioned that while the new uniforms will uphold the Lions’ traditional colors, there will be subtle updates and adjustments to provide more versatility. The addition of various pants options will offer the team different outfit choices throughout the season.

Wood refrained from divulging specific details such as whether the alternate blue helmet or grey alternates would remain in the rotation. However, he assured that all will be revealed next month, including whether the Lions will reintroduce a black outline or jersey to their uniform lineup for the first time since 2016, when they had incorporated such elements into their uniforms from 2003 to 2016.

The Lions become the fourth team this offseason to unveil new uniforms, following in the footsteps of the New York Jets, Denver Broncos, and Houston Texans.
