Agreement has been reached on revised positioning of an oval at the Adelaide Football Club’s proposed training, administration and community facility at Thebarton.
The Club has worked with the South Australian Government to reach an outcome which reduces the impact on the tree canopy on Kings Reserve, which is the area earmarked for a secondary oval.
The new arrangement preserves nine of the 10 substantial trees initially proposed for removal near the rotunda. There will now be five smaller trees impacted on the northern side of the training field.
Crows CEO Tim Silvers said the outcome was the culmination of weeks of negotiations held in good faith.
“We are comfortable with the solution put forward by the Department for Infrastructure and Transport, and we’ve been able to adjust the alignment of the secondary oval while retaining its desired size, as well as lessen the impact on the tree canopy,” Silvers said.
“Our conversations with the State Government have always been open and solution-focussed, and since embarking on this project we have aspired to be a good neighbour to those living in and around Thebarton as we want to be part of the community for many years to come.”
The Club’s Master Plan for the Thebarton Oval Precinct is currently subject to a City of West Torrens community consultation phase, which closes on Thursday.
