The CFL has suspended B.C. Lions’ defensive lineman Sione Teuhema for striking an opponent during the club’s 41-16 loss to the Calgary Stampeders.

The second-year defender out of Southeastern Louisiana University made what the league deemed “unnecessary head contact” with offensive lineman D’Ante Demery before striking him. He was assessed two unnecessary roughness penalties and ejected from the game.

The 28-year-old recorded 37 defensive tackles, three tackles for loss, seven sacks, and two fumble recoveries over 17 games this season. Barring appeal, his suspension will prevent him from dressing for the West Semi-Final against Calgary on Saturday, Nov. 4.

The league also fined Saskatchewan Roughriders’ defensive back Jayden Dalke for a late unnecessary hit on Toronto Argonauts’ offensive lineman Isiah Cage, Riders’ defensive lineman Anthony Lanier II for a late unnecessary hit on Argos’ quarterback Chad Kelly, and Edmonton Elks’ linebacker Nyles Morgan for a high hit on Winnipeg Blue Bombers’ offensive lineman Chris Kolankowski.

Edmonton Elks’ defensive back Kai Gray was also fined for spitting at an opposing player in Week 19.

As per league policy, the amounts of the fines were not disclosed. The maximum possible fine under the league’s collective bargaining agreement is equal to one-half of a player’s game cheque.
