Due to a knee strain, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is not in the Toronto Blue Jays lineup; Alek Manoah, Kevin Gausman, and Yariel Rodriguez are still dealing with personal injuries.

With Opening Day just two weeks away, the Toronto Blue Jays, who are managing several player ailments, gave a few updates on their condition on Tuesday.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr., the first baseman, is out of the lineup for the time being due to a contusion in his left knee. Guerrero has not been sent for imaging, though, as manager John Schneider informed Sportsnet’s Arden Zwelling. Instead, he will go through a thorough exercise and the team’s player development complex in Dunedin, Florida.

Guerrero also had a jammed finger at the end of last week.

Last year, the MLB The Show 24 cover athlete was selected for his third straight All-Star team. In 2023, he concluded with 94 RBI, 26 home runs, a batting average of.264, a.788 OPS, 2.0 WAR, and the title of Home Run Derby.

Three Blue Jays pitchers are attempting to make their way back from injury on the mound.

Kevin Gausman is slated to throw a side session on Tuesday. Gausman has been experiencing shoulder fatigue. Depending on how his bullpen session goes, either live batting practice or a Grapefruit League game will follow.

Meanwhile, Yariel Rodriguez is scheduled to have a live batting practice on Tuesday in an effort to recover from back spasms. Schneider anticipates that the 26-year-old Cuban pitcher will make his Spring Training debut after throwing about 40 pitches.

Schneider gave a less specific update on Alek Manoah because he did not specify when he would be returning. Despite his discomfort in his shoulders, the right-hander is engaged in the game of catch.

With 95 starts over the past three seasons, Gausman is currently third in all of baseball. He has made two All-Star selections, finished in the top 10 for Cy Young voting each of the three seasons. After an incredible debut season in 2021 and an All-Star appearance in 2022, Manoah appeared to be joining Gausman as a true ace. However, in 2023, his output fell down a cliff.

With a few weeks remaining in Spring Training, Rodriguez—one of Toronto’s top free agency recruits this winter—has the opportunity to establish his worth immediately away from a major league roster slot.
